Plus Program

Harbor House Plus Program is set up in three phases:

Phase I (1 to 90 days): Daily orientation to Harbor House rules and regulations. Outpatient and Extended Care Treatment Facilities:

  • Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF)
  • Substance Abuse Service Inc. (SASI)

Attendance schedules for these substance abuse treatment programs varies, according to which facility they attend: Example (COMPASS - Out Patient, 5 days a week, 3 hours a day for 5 to 6 weeks - once completed move to Extended Care, 2 days a week, 1½ hours for 6 to 9 months).

Group Sessions at Harbor House:

  • House Manager, Monday from 5 - 6 p.m. nutrition, cooking, housekeeping skills, menu planning, daily cooking assignments, chore review, and assignments for all residents.
  • Program Advisor, Tuesday and Thursday, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m, 12 Step and Big Book study group, Life Management Skills structured as educational, lectures or interactive group sessions.
  • Case Manager, Wednesday, from 6 - 7 p.m., for Self Assessment Classes, Job Readiness Skills (cover letter and resume writing, mock job interviews), Communicatin Skills, Career and Eductional Development, and Sober Living Skills, IE: leisure activities for self and families.

Weekly House Meeting:

  • All Staff and Residents meet Wednesdays, 5 to 6 p.m., to discuss any issues dealing with house and any information needing to be passed on between Staff and Residents.
  • Tutoring Classes: Tuesday from 7 - 8 p.m. GED preparation, and assistance with subjects of a higher level education, open to all residents, and alumni of our program, being offered by a volunteer Board Member.
  • Parenting Skills: Wednesday from 7 - 8 p.m. parents support group, Thursday from 6 - 7 p.m. parents education group, if you have children, sponsored and facilitated by an outside social service agency, on the premises of Harbor House.

12 Step Support Meetings (AA/NA/CA): documented daily attendance is mandatory, and obtaining a sponsor within the first 30-45 days along with a sober support system.

Supervised Children Visitation: scheduled at Harbor House on Saturday or Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. immediately upon admission.

Family Visitation: Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m. Weekend Passes: for 4 hours on Saturday and Sunday after 30-45 days for community and family interaction to promote sober living activities, in a sober environment with staff approval.

Weekly Individual Session: with Program Advisor to discuss personal issues and go over any problem areas. Case Manager to complete case plan and to help with linkage to other agencies.

Phase II (90 days to 6 months): All Harbor House group sessions same as Phase I. Tutoring Classes and Parenting Skills same as Phase I.

  • Referrals out of agency: Educational and/or Vocational Training, IE: GED, New Beginning Classes (program for displaced homemakers), Universities, and Technical Colleges, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault Survivor groups, Mental Health Agencies.
  • 12 Step Support Meetings (AA/NA/CA): same as Phase I Weekly Individual Sessions: with Program Advisor and Case Manager to modify and update their Life Management Plan and Case Plan as needed. Preliminary discussion regarding employment, training and educational development.
  • Weekly House Meeting: same as Phase I Weekend Passes: for 6 to 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday with Staff approval.
  • Supervised Children Visitation: same as Phase I
  • Family Visitation: same as Phase I

Phase III ( 6 months to 18 months):

  • Harbor House Group Sessions: same as Phase I Individual Sessions: with Program Advisor twice a month, or as needed. Completion date set if resident and staff feel it is appropriate at this time.
  • Individual Sessions: with Case Manager on a weekly basis to continue to update and revise case plan, and to link the resident with other agencies for reintegration back into the community and search for employment or vocational and career development IE: Housing Agencies, Utility Companies, Credit Agencies, SAFAH, FOCUS, Education/Vocational Organizations, Rehabilitation Agencies and Employment Services. Aftercare plan set up for Completion as well as follow-up services explained and schedule set up. Volunteer Work: in the community is encouraged.
  • 12 Step Support Meetings (AA/NA/CA): same as Phase I
  • Weekend Passes: for 8-24 hours, you may submit a request for a overnight pass which may be granted on an individual basis with Executive Director or Program Advisor approval.
  • Supervised Children Visitation: same as Phase I
  • Family Visitation: same as Phase I

Moving from one Phase to another is not automatic. If all requirements are not fulfilled, the resident will stay in the present Phase until they are. All individual sessions have to be attended. All appointments have to be made in a timely manner.
